Apology Statement from the British Medical Journal (BMJ):
"In August 2006 Matthias Rath issued a libel claim over a news item published in the BMJ. The news item was erroneous; Dr Rath's complaint was justified. The BMJ withdrew the item and apologised to Dr Rath (2006;333:621, doi: 10.1136/bmj.333.7569.621-b). Dr Rath indicated that he would be prepared to accept £100 000 to settle his claim for damages. The BMJ agreed to accept this offer and was permitted by the court to do so."
